MEET ‘N’ GREET 19th November 2007 Subject: Nutrition  given by Ian Lane (Report from Margaret)

A talk was given by Ian Lane of Balanced Horse Feeds at the Cock Inn (torrential rain, electrical storm in the background).  It was a very interactive evening, loads of questions and information concerning nutrition. One interesting fact.  Horses and ponies turned out and fed grass only will constantly be searching for the microbiotics needed in their diet and will gorge themselves in that search.  Feed them and satisfy this requirement and they won’t get fat.

Affiliated dressage show at Sands Farm 17th November 2007 (Report from Beverley)

This was quite well supported and a profit of £298.00 was made.  It was friendly and well run so well done Penny who organised it all.  The highest placed Brockham member was Liz Gill, who came third in her class, well done Liz.  Penny would like to say a big thank you to all the helpers; to Marilyn West who was there all day and to Kate and Melanie Scofield who set the arena up the day before.

Results for Team Show jumping at Elstead 11th November. (Report from Beverley)

Alice and Beverley Hilling did not manage to go clear in their rounds but Liz Gill did a perfect round on Maurice to go clear and enter the jump off, when she unfortunately had a couple of jumps down but still came 6th and so did very well.

AGM  WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 2007

The AGM was held at The Cock Inn on Headley and 9 members attended.  We had a pleasant evening with delicious wine and cheeses.  Those who attended felt that the Meet and Greets had been a success, also the DVD afternoon held at Saddlecombe.  The flatwork and show jumping schooling sessions have petered out but some of those whose came along to the meeting were keen to resume them.  Penny Tanebourne is running a dressage show on November 17th for any members who wish to compete or if anyone is willing to help. The website has not been updated very successfully, please use it to advertise or to put any articles you may feel are of interest to club members.

Report from Beverly 5th March 2007.

Unfortunately our team for the quiz night on 12th February was unable to attend as all sorts of things went wrong.

We sent one team to the national novice indoor show jumping qualifier at Sands Farm on 18th February  and there were only three horses so every score had to count.  We were doing well with four clear rounds and one refusal but unfortunately we had an elimination on the sixth round.

2 teams went to the team competition at the Priory on 25th February held by Newlands Corner Riding Club but we were not placed. Better luck next time to all the teams!

INDOOR EVENTERS CHALLENGE  20th Jan 2007

To make a change from our annual indoor show jumping competition, we held an  indoor eventers challenge at Sands Farm, Warnham on Saturday 20th January 2007.

There were six conventional show jumps including a double followed by seven cross country type fences. The whole round was judged against the clock. The course for first class included a “farmyard” (three sets of rails through a corner), straw bales, a “skinny”, angled rails and other rustic fences with a narrow “ditch”(folded tarpaulan “ under a rail) added for class 2.

For class 3 more problems were added so accurate riding was required to make a good time. The water tray under the middle farmyard fence caused some problems and a double of “skinnies” on a dog leg from the straw bales needed accurate riding followed by a turn into a corner fence where time could be saved.

The direction of the course was changed for class 4 where the shortest route meant jumping the corner on a tight turn from the previous pole over “ditch”.

The whole course was decorated with Christmas trees and branches of fir tree much of which was rescued after the high wind caused havoc on the Thursday before.

The problems, though testing in the small arena, were similar to those encountered at pre -novice horse trials although the water tray, in particular, and the skinnies and corner did catch out a few people in class 3.

I think most of the competitors enjoyed themselves but unfortunately there were no Brockham members competing.

Entries were quite good considering we clashed with a schools eventers challenge held at Ardingly and we made a small profit.
